Young Bands Night brings two young bands and a singer-songwriter making great strides in the world of indie, rock and pop. There's a spectacular diversity of talent on show. Come along to say you saw them here first! 7.30 - Tyla Marilyn

8.20 - Cold July

9.10 - MoKat Tyla Marilyn started writing music and lyrics when she was 9. Starting out on the ukulele, she performed live for the first time at an open mic night right here at The Sound Lounge when she was just 11 years old. Since then, she now plays piano and guitar and has gone on to perform at numerous local events. She has released 4 singles since 2023, 2 of which were selected as BBC Introducing’s ‘Track of the day’ and subsequently aired on BBC Radio. She donated 50% of sales proceeds on BandCamp from her single ‘Home Sweet Home’ (a song she wrote about refugees) to a Gaza refugee charity and her single “coffee” won the McCartney Songwriting competition run by the Sutton Music Trust. She has just finished recording her 5th single called ‘song’, which be released in March.

Cold July is a young band based in Guildford, that writes timeless, harmony-driven, Indie-Folk-Pop, with classic singer-songwriter influences that resonates across multiple generations of music fans. Their music has seen them nominated for both 'Best Indie Act' and 'Best Breakthrough Artist' at the annual Radio Wigwam Awards in January 2026.

With a Male/Female co-lead dynamic, their sound evokes Rumours-era Fleetwood Mac and the California music scene of the early 70s, but it also draws from the melodic craftsmanship of Crowded House, the anthemic acoustic rock of the Goo Goo Dolls, the harmony-drenched indie-folk of Flyte, and the strong emotional storytelling of Passenger and Phoebe Bridgers.

Formed in May 2024 at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) in Guildford, the band bonded over their love of classic songwriting and ambition to create long-lasting music. Though only 18, their songwriting shows a maturity beyond their years. Their 4 singles and the collection of songs that make up their self-produced debut album, set for release in the Spring of 2026, showcase exactly why they have been leaving audiences of all ages completely floored by the sheer quality of their songwriting and their sensational live shows.

With a deep respect for music history and influences spanning from the 60s through to today, Cold July carries a quiet confidence that is both endearing and electrifying.

MoKat is a five piece rock band located in Guildford who formed in their college “AC[M] Guildford” in 2024. The band has a handful of originals from slow melodic songs to catchy distorted tracks, the majority of which have been recorded in Casemates Studios in Portsmouth. On top of this MoKat have recorded in London’s Metropolis Studios and soon The Blue Rooms.

In 2025 MoKat has been up and down UK playing at festivals such as Teddy Rocks, Isle Of Wight, Lake Fest, Camp Bestival, Carfest and venues such as The Cavern, Dublin Castle, Camden Club, O2 Islington, Half Moon Putney and a residency in The Cabbage Patch in Twickenham.

The band as a whole have a lot more gigs, festivals and music on the way in 2026. Follow their journey on Instagram @mokat.official for updates and more. Doors 7pm. Show 7.30pm Tickets £4 (advance) £5 (on the night) Unreserved seating and standing
