Michele Stodart
Any return visit by Michele Stodart to the Sound Lounge is a special occasion. The multi-award-winning singer-songwriter, producer, musical director and multi-instrumentalist graces our stage again for this special Sunday evening performance.
Michelle is of course best known as bassist, vocalist and co-songwriter of The Magic Numbers. The Mercury Music Prize-nominated, double-platinum selling band have released five much-loved studio albums and theme hits such as 'Love Me Like You' and 'Take A Chance'. She continues to play with the band and tour worldwide, and they're set to release a new album next year.
Stodart was born in Trinidad, where she spent her early childhood until she and her family fled a military coup attempt, leading them to Queens, New York, and eventually to London, where she's now based, Michele has always pursued her own writing, nurturing a love for folk, country and Americana music, and has released three solo albums of her own songs, highly praised by Rolling Stone, Uncut and many other prestigious titles. Her most recent release, 'Invitation', was named UK Album of the Year at the UK Americana Awards.
Michele also has a burgeoning reputation as a musical director, collaborator and producer, curating and directing an annual multi-artist show celebrating International Women’s Day, among many other events. She has also worked as a tutor and held songwriting masterclasses at a range of different creative workshops and songwriting retreats, for both adults and children.
In 2019, Stodart appeared in the Danny Boyle/Richard Curtis blockbuster ‘Yesterday’, also featuring on the Abbey Road Studios movie soundtrack, reinterpreting The Beatles’ most beloved hits. In 2022, she was named the AMA UK Instrumentalist Of The Year and returned as musical director the following year.
