Little George Sueref & The Mosquitoes
If you’ve seen Little George Sueref at the Sound Lounge in his modern-day role as a member of Geraint Watkins’ Mosquitoes, or you’re just a fan of super-soulful rhythm and blues-soaked vocals and killer harmonica, you mustn’t miss this one!
George was born in Cardiff to Greek parents, moved to London when he was 17 and learnt to play harmonica, becoming a devotee of Chicago and Delta blues and such greats as Jimmy Reed and Muddy Waters. He played for about 12 years as a member of Big Joe Louis and his Blues Kings (“once I joined them, I knew there was no going back”, he told the BBC. “There were no more day jobs”).
Sueref is a three-time winner of Blueprint Magazine’s ‘Harp Of The Year’ award and his band perform all over Europe, Scandinavia and the US. Check out his performance below at the recent Ealing Blues Festival and try to resist tapping your feet to this great showman!
