Barry Payne + Sean Bright
Barry Payne is a British bass player, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who was the founder and principal songwriter of the teenage proto-punk band The Johnny 7 Combo during the mid 1970s. By the end of 1977 (and at just 17) he had joined Wreckless Eric, playing bass on Eric's seminal debut LP for Stiff Records.
Through the early '80s, Barry toured the UK and Europe as bassist with San Fransisco's Pearl Harbour including major support tours with The Clash, Madness, Talking Heads and The B52's.
During the late 90's early 00's he recorded two critically acclaimed LP's for the Rough Trade label with Eileen Rose and two LP's with the British blues artist Bex Marshall, including the award winning 'House of Mercy' album. Numerous TV, radio, live and recording sessions with a variety of other counter-culture artists over the years including Chris Jagger, Simon Alpin and Viarosa.
Barry currently fronts his band own band The Long Shadows as well as performing solo acoustic shows.
Sean Bright is a true songwriter. Heartfelt, incisive lyrics, great melodies and an engaging performing persona to back it up. A much-admired regular on the Sound Lounge stage, Sean is rising fast with his solo work, as frontman of new band The Rousings, and as a member of Americana favourites The Ladles, who will reprise their opening slot for Slim Chance when they return to the SL in November.
